If you’re looking for hope in men’s American Mountain Biking, look no farther than Howard Grotts. This 24-year-old Durango, Colorado native is the best male rider of his generation … so that means life is easy sailing, right? Well, not so much. The man who has achieved the pinnacle of the sport in his own nation still have big goals ahead – an achieving those on the global stage is no easy task. Grotts is no stranger to overcoming difficulty: in 2015 he suffered the heartbreaking loss of his brother, Donnie. Now Grotts will have to once again show that he’s made of strong stuff if he hopes to elevate past “best in the country” to “best in the world.” If he can repeat his 2016 victory in the EverBank X-Country Mountain Bike race, he’ll at least have a little cash in his pocket to carry to his next competition.
