When she was 12 years old, Evergreen’s Alayna (Lanie) Szuch fell onto the running radar in Vail when she beat the entire field of female runners and all but two men in the Apres 5K trail run, then landed third overall in the 10K race. A year later, she beat the women’s field by more than a minute and a half in the 5K and once again took third in the 10K. Now 15 and still competing with 17-year-old brother Colin, who also has super fast feet, the Szuch family (all outdoor enthusiasts) returns after a two-year hiatus.
