Making her Vail IFSC World Cup debut this June, 18-year-old Ashima Shiraishi is sure to bring on some “oohs” and “ahhs” around the bouldering wall. The New York City-born climber swept the Youth Climbing World Championships in bouldering and lead from 2015 to 2017 and has already proven her worth in her first World Cup competitions this season. Oh yeah, she’s also charged up crazy outdoor ascents that no other female – and very few men – ever have. She’s got her sights set on representing the U.S. at the 2020 Olympic Games.
