Ben Stookesberry and his team thought they had finally found the right time to go paddle the Rio Apaporis, a waterfall-strewn, monster-sized river that cuts through the heart of the Columbian rainforest. It was April, 2017, and together with Jules Domine, Chris Korbulic, Aniol Serrasolses, and Jessie Rice, the team thought the recent cease-fire in Columbian conflict meant that the river might finally be accessed in peace. Unfortunately, they were wrong. Held and questioned by FARC rebels, Stookesberry and company went through a tense, two-day ordeal that brought a different type of adventure to the paddler’s historic run.
