When Tao Berman won the Steep Creek Championships in 2005, it was by a mere eight seconds over Eric Jackson. It was part of a winning streak that makes him the all-time winning-est kayaker in the 16-year-history of the Coors Light Steep Creek Championships. Well, we think so anyway. Our mountain methods of record-keeping means we don’t have records before 2005. He won that year and again in 2007 and 2008, (he was 2nd in 2009 and 3rd in 2010).
Tao isn’t back to once again dominate the Steep Creek, but instead to prove that kayakers do grow up … well, at least partly. Tao will bring his family: his partner Jaime and their two children, Cole (4) and Violet (5). Violet says she’s most looking forward to the Rocky Dog Trail Run, and Cole is going to give the free kids push-bike a try. The whole family, of course, is going to get down and dirty in the Kyocera Mud Run. Like a lot of the moms and dads at the GoPro Mountain Games, Tao’s CD collection … iPod playlist … Spotify playlist is a little bit outdated, but the kids are having so much fun that they just don’t care.
