This is a Class 1 Electric Mountain Bike Race (eMTB). The race event will be held on a course on Vail Mountain specifically designed for eMTB racers.

Rules

CATEGORIES:

Open (Men/Women)

Format & Rules:
  • All racers will start and finish in Golden Peak.
  • Riders will start in Waves every two (2) minutes. Each Wave will have a maximum of 10 riders.
  • A corral will be set up East of the start/finish line for riders to stage in before the race.
  • One lap of the course is approximately eight and a half (8.5) miles and will have over 2,000 ft of elevation gain. Along the course, athletes will have to ride on all types of terrain ranging from forest service access dirt roads to single track.
  • The course will be marked prior to the race. Signs will be set up to direct riders and marshals will be placed in locations all along the course. It is the athlete’s responsibility to follow the signs and stay on the course. If a rider goes off course, they will be disqualified.
Required Gear:
  • Only eMTBs that meet the following specifications for a Class 1 electric bicycle are allowed to race:
    • Bikes operated by the following systems:
      Bosch, Brose, Shimano, or Yamaha
    • Bikes that include fully operable pedals.
    • Bikes that include an electric motor of less than 750 watts that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling.
    • Bikes that include a motor that ceases to provide assistance when the bicycle reaches a speed of 20 miles per hour.
    • Bikes may not include a throttle.
  • All eMTBs must pass a technical inspection no later than 30 minutes prior to race start time. Top finishers’ bikes will be inspected after the finish of their race. An inspection corral will be located near the start/finish of the race.
  • Helmets are required; Elbow and knee pads are recommended.

Start and finish is in Golden Peak just West of Chair 6 in front of the Race City building.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS:
  • RACE DAY PROTOCOL
    • The eBike Challenge will start in waves with 10 athletes per wave.
    • Waves will start every 2 minutes.
    • Staff, signs and ground markings will ensure proper physical distancing as athletes stage in their respective waves prior to the start of the race.
    • Athletes must wear a face mask in the start and finish areas.
    • Athletes may remove their mask at the start line just prior to the race start.
    • At the end of the race, athletes are asked to wear their mask.
    • Racers will adhere to all social distancing protocols at the start and finish lines.
    • Aid Station(s) on course will be staffed. Water coolers will be available with a staff member disinfecting after each use.
    • Individually wrapped food items (energy bars/gels) may be available at the Aid Station(s) and start/ finish line.
    • Spectating is discouraged.
