Athlete Forms & Policies

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY:

The culture of the Mountain Games is built upon inclusivity, kindness and the celebration of the human spirit. Competitions are open to all interested athletes regardless of age, gender, and state or country of residency. Competitors who are under the age of 18 must register with a parent or legal guardian. Competitors must be able to attend all scheduled events. Athletes will be required to provide all their own equipment unless noted on the event registration page at the time of registration.

PARTICIPATION:

Athletes agree to be bound by Mountain Games rules and policies as posted on the website and their event’s rules as posted on each individual event page, and to comply with the rules, regulations, signage and directions of the Event or Event Organizers.

ORGANIZERS AND RESERVATION OF RIGHTS:

The Mountain Games will be organized and produced by staff and contractors hired from and by the Vail Valley Foundation. The decisions of Organizers regarding the selection and elimination of athletes, the selection of finalists and winners, and the production and administration of Mountain Games related events, and all other aspects of the event, shall be final and binding in all respects.

Organizers reserve the right to disqualify an athlete for any reason, including, without limitation, acting in an unsafe, unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner and/or with intent to intimidate, threaten or harass, or harm another person. All decisions with respect to the disqualification of an athlete shall be made by Organizers and/or appointed judges. Failure to comply with any term or condition of event rules may result in an athlete’s disqualification and the forfeiture of his/her interest in any prize. Organizers reserve the right to amend event rules at any time in its sole discretion, and athletes shall have no recourse for any such changes or for any failure (whether inadvertent or otherwise) by Organizers to follow the stated rules. In the event that the competition is canceled prior to the completion of the final event, no prizes will be awarded.

Organizers will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in event rules or in other materials relating to the event.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION:

Organizers will appoint a Dispute Team consisting of the Event Director, Competition Manager, and Specialists for each competition to manage all disputes. All disputes should be submitted in person to the Competition Manager or Specialist, or can be submitted in writing via email to [email protected] within 48 hours of event completion. The decision of the Dispute Team will be final. There will be no review of scoring/timing with cameras. Organizers will make best efforts to resolve all disputes fairly.

The GoPro Mountain Games has adopted this policy and the ability to challenge results out of a desire to create a fair and level playing field for all athletes to compete regardless of age, gender, skill level, or experience. As such we expect all parties to behave in a manner that is honest, compassionate, and respectful. We will not tolerate hateful or discriminatory behavior by any of our athletes, or those associated with the Mountain Games.

Athletes may not publicly post or discuss any challenges until the Dispute Team has reached a decision. Any athlete exhibiting hateful or discriminatory behavior before or after a challenge decision has been made will be disqualified from the event, not eligible for prize money and may be deemed ineligible to register for future GoPro Mountain Games events.

In the event of a challenge or appeal, or as deemed necessary, the GoPro Mountain Games Dispute Team may request supporting documentation. All information will be kept strictly confidential. The Dispute Team will review the relevant facts and make a final decision.

If the athlete in question is not in compliance with this policy, they will forfeit any place positions but will retain their official finish. Any announcements made by the event will simply state whether an athlete was or was not in compliance with our policy and the associated action taken by the event. We will not disclose any additional information related to the decision.

Please note that these policies are subject to change at the discretion of the event organizer at any time. Participants are responsible for being aware of all Mountain Games competition rules and policies prior to competing.

ATHLETE GIFT:

Each athlete will receive one (1) gift per person, not per event. Unless stated otherwise in the event registration.
