Another epic edition of the GoPro Mountain Games is underway, and Day 1 of the 2025 festivities delivered exactly what mountain sport enthusiasts have come to expect: pure adrenaline, spectacular scenery, and unforgettable moments that remind us why Vail remains the ultimate playground for outdoor adventure.
From sunrise to sunset, the energy was electric as competitors and spectators embraced the perfect blend of competition, community, and Colorado’s unmatched natural beauty.
Four-legged stars steal the show
The star power was undeniable at Pro Plan Dog Town, where the canine athletes took center stage in spectacular fashion. Dogs were flying through the air during day one of the Pro Plan DockDogs events, with some impressive competitions that had the crowd on their feet cheering for their favorite furry competitors.
The excitement continued with the brand-new Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge experience, which kicked off in Pro Plan Dog Town featuring freestyle flying disc performances, agility demonstrations, and a crowd-pleasing canine trick show that showcased the incredible bond between dogs and their human partners.
For those seeking a more leisurely pace with their four-legged friends, canines and their human companions hit the scenic trail during the BFGoodrich Rocky Dog Fun Run, proving that the Mountain Games truly offer something for every skill level and interest.
Water warriors take the rapids
The whitewater action was nothing short of spectacular as rafters battled it out in the Pacifico Gore IV Raft Challenge, navigating the waters with skill, strategy, and no small amount of courage. The competition was fierce, with teams pushing their limits on some of the most challenging whitewater the Rockies have to offer.
The ISOPURE Kayak Freestyle also got underway with qualifiers that showcased the incredible artistry and athleticism of freestyle kayaking. Athletes demonstrated jaw-dropping moves that blur the line between sport and art, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable competition. See results
Climbing to new heights
The vertical action was equally impressive as women competitors took on the first qualifying session of the North American Cup Series Vail presented by CELSIUS, with elite athletes from across the continent taking on challenging routes to separate the contenders from the champions.
Meanwhile, kids scaled the bouldering wall during the first wave of youth climbing competitions. The young athletes showed remarkable determination and skill, proving that the future of climbing is in good hands.

Mountains of Music under the stars
As the sun set behind the towering peaks, the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater came alive with the opening night of the Mountains of Music concert series. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue delivered an electrifying performance with support from Bonfire Dub, creating the perfect soundtrack for a day filled with mountain adventure and community celebration.
Looking ahead to Day 2: speed climbing schedule updates
With Day 1 officially in the books, excitement is building for what’s shaping up to be an incredible event. Day 2 promises to bring even more thrills, including the highly anticipated debut of speed climbing events at the GoPro Mountain Games.
The qualifiers for the YETI North American Sup Series Vail – Speed will take place at the Bulleit Hangout in Golden Peak, featuring elite Olympic athletes, marking the discipline’s first-ever competition at the Mountain Games. Please note the new, earlier times for climbing events:
- The North American Cup Series Vail presented by CELSIUS – Bouldering qualifiers will now begin at 8:00 a.m.
- The YETI North American Cup Series Vail – Speed qualification practice has been moved to 8:30 a.m.
- The YETI North American Cup Series Vail – Speed qualifiers will now begin at 9:30 a.m.
