Time to get training: Emily Jackson

Posted by: Shauna Farnell

We continue our “Time to get training” series with world freestyle kayak champion, super mom and all-around badass, Emily Jackson.

As far as what the pro paddler has been up to over the last several months, in addition to getting out to paddle on her home river in Rock Island, Tenn, every other day, Emily has been transforming herself into a well-rounded fitness machine.

This woman, who, by the way, has won so many Mountain Games events over the years, we can’t even count (it’s somewhere in the double digits), has been on a strength and endurance-building mission.

In 300 days, she did 600 45-minute workouts, read 12 self-improvement books, worked up to doing a whopping 10 pull-ups in a row, rocked out a 210-pound dead lift and has run a half marathon every week since Jan. 1. She notched multiple personal records in her running feats, clocking a half marathon in 2 hours 4 minutes, a 5K  in 25:30, and one-mile in 6:50.

Oh yeah, she also managed to hold a handstand for a full 2 minutes, completed a half Iron Man and has not touched a drop of booze for almost a year. Good thing for the rest of you that the UMC is not happening this year, because obviously she’d be crushing it…
