I wanna watch! The multi-media Mountain Games

Posted by: Tom Boyd

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been to the GoPro Mountain Games before.

Wow, that’s a LOT of you! And while it’s true that more than 80,000 spectators attended the 2019 GoPro Mountain Games, we don’t expect to be able to welcome nearly as many in 2021 as our venues operate under capacity limits and physical distancing protocols.

Many of you may want to check out the 2021 Mountain Games from afar. We’ve got you covered.

Read on, virtual traveler, for we have much to offer…

Smile, you’re watching Outside TV

We have an athlete/competition focus in 2021, but what about spectators? Or, what if you’re an athlete that wants to win awesome prizes in a virtual event?

The truth is we don’t know where we’ll be on this whole pandemic thing by June, but we DO know we won’t have many of the spectator activities that have been a part of the event the past 19+ years. Our Gear Town will not be active, and we are planning to have clear boundaries, capacity limitations, and physical distancing measures in place at all our venues. Will those measures loosen by June? It’s a longshot, so we have built an event plan that can operate in the current environment.

So this year we’re going to bring the Mountain Games to YOU.

We’re doing it in a couple pretty cool ways:

  • LIVE TV show on Outside TV+ on each night of the event that will lead into a livestreamed concert from The Amp (concerts are planned for June 10, 11, and 12).
  • Virtual events/competitions and participatory games and prizes (more on that soon!)
  • Social media contests and prizes (look for news on that in late April/May)

Like you, we wish we could wave a magic SUP paddle and have this whole ‘virus’ thing disappear. Since we haven’t cracked the supernatural code on that little maneuver, we’re going to do the next best thing and bring the Mountain Games to you in as many multi-media ways as we possibly can.

We have a lot more coming down the virtual pike – so stay tuned and we’ll have more updates soon.
